Joël Bartoloméo's Triple Exhibition Explores Time, Family, and Autobiography

exhibition · 2026-04-23

From November 2001 to May 2002, Joël Bartoloméo's artwork was showcased across France, specifically at Galerie du collège Marcel Duchamp in Châteauroux (November 16 to December 21, 2001), Le Hall in Lyon (January 24 to February 18, 2002), and Galerie Alain Gutharc in Paris (April 6 to May 25, 2002). The exhibitions explored themes of temporality and the intersection of private and public realms. A video from 1992 captures Bartoloméo's children participating in a volume perception study. Curated by Lionel Balouin, the Châteauroux exhibition featured the 1999 video "Opération séduction" alongside family footage. Subsequent works, such as "Les Dormeurs" (2000) and a facsimile of "Carnet de rêve" (2002), reflect an autobiographical narrative reminiscent of Gertrude Stein. A catalogue was released for the Châteauroux exhibition in 2001.
