Joe Namy's 'Until This Elegy Ends' Opens at Darat al Funun

Darat al Funun in Amman, Jordan, opened 'Until This Elegy Ends' on October 31, 2024, featuring audiovisual and archival works by Lebanese artist Joe Namy. The exhibition responds to the ongoing genocide in Palestine and war against Lebanon, presenting works that explore resilience, memory, and the persistence of life. Namy's documentation of ancient olive orchards in Deir Mimas, Southern Lebanon, highlights trees targeted by Israeli white phosphorus airstrikes. A sound sculpture evokes a siren's call, exposing settler colonial fragility. The exhibition draws on composer Halim El-Dabh's post-Nakba musical legacy and collaborations with musicians from the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music. Concurrently, Darat al Funun presents 'Under Fire' at The Blue House, featuring drawings by Gaza artists Basel Al Maqousi, Majed Shalla, Raed Issa, and Sohail Salem. A video work 'Consider' by Brazilian artist Ж pays tribute to war martyrs at The Ghorfa, and Suha Shoman's text installation 'We Won’t Leave' continues at The Lab. Namy's works are on view until March 2025.
