Joe Lewis's £200m collection to be sold at Sotheby's London in June

In June, British billionaire Joe Lewis will auction a portion of his art collection at Sotheby's London, with an estimated value between £150m and £200m, marking it as the most valuable single-owner collection ever presented in the UK. This event follows a March auction where four pieces from Lewis's collection sold for £35.8m. Notable works include Gustav Klimt's Bildnis Gertrud Loew (estimated £20-30m), Amedeo Modigliani's Homme à la pipe (estimated £12-18m), and Francis Bacon's Two Studies for Self-Portrait (estimated £8-12m). Additionally, Egon Schiele's Danaë, previously withdrawn from a 2017 Sotheby's New York auction, is now estimated at £12-18m. The collection, amassed by Lewis and his daughter Vivienne from the early 1990s until around 2015, is regarded by Sotheby's Oliver Barker as the finest offering ever in London. The choice to sell in London is viewed as a sign of confidence in the UK market, which has struggled compared to New York, Paris, and Hong Kong since Brexit. The Lewises opted not to take a guarantee, allowing the market to determine the outcome. A preview will be available at Sotheby's New York on May 2.
