Joe Fyfe Installs Improvised Flag Work at NADA New York's Closing
During the final half-hour before NADA New York closed on Sunday, artist Joe Fyfe enlisted assistance to hang an additional work at Galerie Christian Lethert's booth. The installation occurred on the unused outer wall of LA dealers TIF SIGFRIDS at booth #507. Fyfe was exhibiting several painted constructions with the Cologne gallery alongside works by Imi Knoebel. He revealed that attending New York art fairs was originally his only opportunity to see Knoebel's pieces. For his flag piece, Fyfe avoided disturbing a grid of small framed works to obtain screws, instead struggling with an electric screwdriver before resorting to hammering. The flag featured blocks of blue and turquoise fabric loosely attached to a Stars and Stripes pattern. When the word 'provisional' was mentioned, Fyfe expressed frustration. Photographer Oriane Stender requested he pose with the flag, prompting his question about appearing on Facebook. Fyfe serves as a contributing editor and review panelist for artcritical.
