Jodorowsky's Endless Poetry Premieres at Cannes Directors' Fortnight
Alejandro Jodorowsky's autobiographical film "Endless Poetry" (Poesia sin fin) premiered at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight (Quinzaine des Realizateurs) at the Marriott Hotel cinema, receiving a ten-minute standing ovation. The film is the second autobiographical chapter by the Chilean-born artist, continuing from where his previous film "The Dance of Reality" left off. Jodorowsky, now 87, funded the project through crowdfunding platforms, engaging supporters by offering personalized tarot readings on YouTube. The film draws on his earlier novel "The Son of Black Thursday" and incorporates elements from Eurasian theater, Japanese Bunraku, circus pantomime, and the myths of his homeland. Despite limited technical means and a theatrical, psychedelic 1970s aesthetic, Jodorowsky transforms obstacles into creative opportunities, involving family, friends, and volunteers as cast and crew. He has already distributed a limited-edition storyboard titled "I figli del topo" and is working on his next project.
