Joanna Piotrowska's Jungian Photographic Collages at The Common Guild
The Common Guild in Glasgow is set to host Joanna Piotrowska's inaugural exhibition in Scotland, titled 'A moment of darkness at noon,' as part of the 11th Glasgow International, a biennial contemporary art festival running from June 5 to June 21, 2026. This exhibition showcases new large-format photographs, collages, and framing techniques tailored to the gallery's environment. Based in Porto, Portugal, Piotrowska explores the human experience through photography, performance, and film, often depicting psychologically intense scenes within domestic and constructed settings. Her work delves into Jungian psychoanalysis, emphasizing intuitive expressions. The layered collages merge personal family images with nudes, landscapes, and close-ups, creating an ambiguous, dreamlike atmosphere. Piotrowska (b. 1985, Warsaw) studied at the Royal College of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Recent solo shows include 'unseeing eyes, restless bodies' at ICA Philadelphia (2024) and 'Entre nous' at LE BAL, Paris (2023). She also participated in 'The Milk of Dreams' at the Venice Biennale 2022 and 'manifesto of fragility' at the 16th Lyon Biennale 2022.
