Joana Escoval's 'Ambientale' at Vistamare Pescara

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Joana Escoval's first solo exhibition at Galleria Vistamare in Pescara, 'Ambientale', presents new works rooted in direct experience of natural phenomena. The artist spent time in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal, a sparsely populated rural area with dry climate and agro-silvo-pastoral economy, where she engaged with primary elements—metals, water, fire, soil—and reifies their interrelations. The show features sculptures, installations, performances, videos, and paintings. Key series include 'Vibrational geography', comprising raw rocks with metal inserts (gold or brass wires) that probe internal rhythms and connect multiple stones as energy transmission devices. 'Travelling wave I–III' are fragile metal curves leaning against walls, mimicking oscillation and responding to air movement. The 'Ambientale' series consists of vertical panels treated with water and earth solutions, marked with oblique ink strokes made with horsehair brushes, evoking movement from east to west. The works do not imitate landscape but translate it into forms that make perceptible resonances, pulsations, and sensory qualities. The exhibition runs at Vistamare Pescara in 2025.
