Joana Choumali's Abidjan Daydreamers exhibition at Galerie Farah Fakhri explores memory and urban awakening

At Galerie Farah Fakhri in Abidjan, Joana Choumali showcases 16 mixed-media pieces until July 25, 2025. Her exhibition, titled 'La Terre n’a qu’un Soleil,' incorporates digital photography on cotton canvas paired with embroidery, layering delicate fabrics over images of Abidjan's skyline at dawn. Among the featured works is 'The Day Dreamer' (2025), which combines collaged figures with embroidered plants. Choumali illustrates Cocody Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral using photographs and wool thread. One artwork portrays a young Ivorian girl amidst construction materials, while another, 'The Wind Sounds like Peace' (2025), depicts a dancer on the bridge. Her pieces merge documentary-style photography with textiles, reflecting on early morning fog and vehicle lights, and delve into emotional perception.
