Joan Mitchell's Arboreal Paintings and Brooklyn Group Show Explore Tree Imagery in Spring 2014 Exhibitions

In Chelsea, Cheim & Read presented a collection of eleven semi-abstract paintings by Joan Mitchell, created between 1964 and 1991, during the spring of 2014. This exhibition featured significant pieces such as "Tilleul (Linden Tree)" from 1977 and "Green Tree" from 1976. A second-generation abstract expressionist, Mitchell resided in Vétheuil until her passing in 1992. At the same time, Brooklyn's Tabla Rasa Gallery exhibited "Intimate Forest," showcasing works from fifteen contemporary artists focused on the theme of trees. Co-curator Anders Knutsson emphasized the importance of trees in various religions. Noteworthy artists included Rodney Dickson, Julia Forrest, Peter White, Eric Pesso, and Kathleen Hayek. The Mitchell exhibition was open from May 15 to August 29, 2014, while "Intimate Forest" ran from April 23 to June 7, 2014.
