Joan Miró's monumental painting and the 1980 Maggio Mirò exhibition revisited in Montecatini Terme
The Montecatini Contemporary Art gallery, known as Mo.C.a, is currently presenting 'Joan Miró a Montecatini Terme,' which will run until June 29, 2025. This exhibition recreates the 1980 Maggio Mirò event, which was organized by Carlos Franqui, a Cuban exile born in 1921 in Cifuentes, Cuba. Franqui, who was a revolutionary that distanced himself from Fidel Castro, moved to Montecatini in the 1970s. The original Maggio Mirò showcased works from artists such as Arroyo, Rebeyrolle, and Tapies. At nearly 90 years old, Miró contributed his painting 'Dona Voltada d’un Vol d’Ocells' to the city. The exhibition also features unpublished photographs by Alfredo Melgar, historical RAI footage from 1980, and various works and documents from other artists.
