Joan Miró's 130th Birthday Celebrated Across European Museums in 2023

Joan Miró, born April 20, 1893, and died December 25, 1983, is honored with multiple exhibitions across Europe in 2023, marking both the 130th anniversary of his birth and the 40th anniversary of his death. In Italy, the Museo Revoltella in Trieste hosts 'Omaggio a Miró' until September 24, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and Vincenzo Sanfo, featuring about 80 works including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, watercolors, drawings, documents, books, and graphic works on loan from Spanish and French museums. The Museo Archeologico Regionale di Aosta presents 'È quando sogno che vedo chiaro' until October 1, exploring Miró's dream influence. The Galleria delle Arti in Rome already concluded 'Tracé sur l’eau,' displaying 14 watercolors etched on onion skin paper from a 1963 artist's book. At the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, 'Joan Miró. Absolute Reality. Paris, 1920-1945' runs until May 28, examining his Parisian period and surrealist ties, with works showing his interest in prehistoric art. The Zentrum Paul Klee in Berna, curated by Fabienne Eggelhöfer, recently closed an exhibition contrasting Miró with Paul Klee, featuring large-format works using scissors and fire.
