Jitish Kallat's 'Decimal Point' at Sperone Westwater Explores Scientific Limits Through Sculpture and Drawings

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From April 26 to June 16, 2018, Jitish Kallat, an artist from Mumbai, showcased 'Decimal Point' at Sperone Westwater in New York, delving into scientific understanding through fundamental processes. The exhibition featured 'Covariance (Sacred Geometry)' (2017–18), a sculpture of an asteroid made from dental plaster, and 'The Infinite Episode 2' (2016), which depicted sleeping animals. 'Wind Study (Hilbert Curve)' (2017) utilized David Hilbert's concepts to create burn patterns using wind. Kallat's 'Rain Study' (2017) involved capturing images of the night sky with lab notes by holding paper under rain linked to his breathing. Additionally, the 'Sightings' series (2017–18) presented 16 lenticular prints with inverted fruit imagery. ArtReview Asia highlighted Kallat's blend of method and serendipity in its Summer 2018 edition.
