architecture-design · 2026-04-26

New York's JFK Airport will gradually unveil its new Terminal One, a $9.5 billion initiative set to replace the 1998 facility, between 2026 and 2030. This terminal is expected to accommodate 14 million travelers each year and will include 23 gates, with the first 14 slated for completion by mid-2026. Spanning over 28,000 square meters, it will offer various dining, retail, and leisure options. This development is part of a broader $19 billion revitalization of JFK, backed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which also encompasses the new Terminal 6. Terminal One will feature artwork from seven artists, including Yinka Shonibare and Kelly Akashi, along with a curated program by Culture Corps, showcasing a significant lenticular display and interactive panels for the "Leaving New York" multimedia experience.
