Jewel's Kinetic Sculpture Translates Ocean Data into Sound and Light for Venice Biennale
Jewel, the famous singer-songwriter, is set to reveal a stunning 8-foot kinetic sculpture called "Heart of the Ocean." This piece will turn open-source ocean data into captivating sound and light experiences. It's debuting on May 7, 2026, at the Venice Biennale in Salone Verde and will be available until November 22. This sculpture is part of her solo show, "Matriclysm: An Archaeology of Connections Lost," featuring her artwork that explores feminine strength and environmental themes. Jewel worked with experts from NASA, NOAA, UC Berkeley, and Stanford to create musical algorithms from data like wave height and wildlife migration. The sculpture includes 60,000 programmable lights that change colors based on this data. Additionally, it showcases "The Seven Sisters," glass orbs that add women's voices to her choral piece. Jewel, a four-time Grammy nominee, has sold over 12 million copies of her first album, "Pieces of You," and co-founded the mental health platform Innerworld, hoping her sculpture will help calm viewers.
