Jessica Morgan Outlines Vision for Dia Art Foundation in 2015 Interview

institutional · 2026-04-20

In April 2015, Jessica Morgan, who recently took on the role of director at the Dia Art Foundation, shared her aspirations for the organization. Having spent 12 years as a curator at Tate Modern, she underscored Dia's commitment to fostering significant projects, such as Walter De Maria's The Lightning Field (1977) and Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty (1970). Morgan intends to thoughtfully enhance the collection and revive Dia's historical significance in Manhattan's Chelsea. Plans are in place to begin construction on a new building in NYC within the next few years. She also pointed out the need for gender representation, mentioning artists like Hilla Becher and Bridget Riley, while emphasizing unique museum experiences. Dia's collection, focused on the mid-1960s to early 1970s, is currently located at Dia:Beacon, which opened in 2003.
