Jerwood Gallery to lose collection, multiple art world appointments announced
The Jerwood Gallery in Hastings is set to lose its collection following the Jerwood Foundation's decision to withdraw funding as of November 2019. This withdrawal includes a request for a name change and the return of over 300 artworks by notable artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. Since its inception in March 2012, the foundation has contributed £2.6m. Tensions between director Liz Gilmore and Chair Alan Grieve escalated, resulting in a repossession order. The gallery intends to operate under a new name and host temporary exhibitions. In other news, Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung has been named artistic director of sonsbeek 2020 in Arnhem, Belgium. Karen MacKinnon has taken on the role of curator at Swansea's Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, while Danica Dakić will represent Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Venice Biennale. Additionally, Tate has appointed Catherine Carver Dunn as the executive director of Tate Americas Foundation.
