Jérôme Bel's First Solo Museum Show at Centro Pecci, Prato
The Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea Pecci in Prato presents the first solo museum exhibition dedicated to French choreographer Jérôme Bel, curated by Antonia Alampi. Born in Montpellier in 1964 and based in Paris, Bel has previously shown his works—live performances and videos—in exhibitions and biennials worldwide. The exhibition title, "76'38'' + ∞," references the total duration of the videos, encouraging viewers to watch them in full—a theatrical norm but unusual in a museum. The "∞" alludes to infinite possibilities of new dance, with a loop created specifically for the Pecci that can be experienced from seconds to eternity. The show revolves around five key works from the last twenty years and is accompanied by a live performance, "Gala," premiering nationally as part of the Fabbrica Europa festival on May 10–11, 2017, at 9 PM at Stazione Leopolda in Florence. "Gala" brings together professional and non-professional dancers to reflect on the concept of dance. A video excerpt from Bel's well-known piece "Disabled Theatre," created with Theater Hora from Zurich—a group of eleven actors aged 18 to 51 with cognitive disabilities—is also featured.
