Jeppe Hein's Right Here, Right Now for Ruinart's Carte Blanche

Danish artist Jeppe Hein (Copenhagen, 1974) has been selected as the 2022 artist for Ruinart's Carte Blanche project, which annually invites an international artist to explore the Champagne house and create a new collection of works, a book, and a bottle design. Inspired by Ruinart's respect for nature and the slow champagne-making process, Hein created Right Here, Right Now, a meditative journey connecting his artistic research on mindfulness with an invitation to engage with the environment. He worked with four elements linked to champagne production: chalk (earth), grapes (sun), aroma (air), and essential oil (water). Interactive works invite visitors to touch chalk, grape seeds, and oil while reading reflective messages on mirrored surfaces. The project will tour Ruinart lounges at major art fairs throughout 2022, with the next stop in Venice during the Biennale Arte at Palazzo Rocca from April 21, 2022. Hein practices yoga and meditation daily, lives in a caravan in Denmark, and sees himself as a medium rather than a traditional artist. His exhibition at Moderna Museet Stockholm (Jeppe Hein. Who are you really?, May 21–August 28, 2022) features a rainbow corridor for chakra meditation. Hein emphasizes the importance of sensory connection post-pandemic and believes his work fosters self-awareness and celebration of life.
