Jenny Holzer's Largest Retrospective Opens at Guggenheim Bilbao
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is hosting the largest exhibition ever dedicated to Jenny Holzer, the American artist born in Gallipolis, Ohio in 1950, who has used text as her primary medium for over four decades. Curated by Petra Joos in collaboration with the artist, the show runs from March 22 to September 9, 2019. It highlights Frank Gehry's architecture through site-specific installations, presents Holzer's early Truism series—short, incisive statements that challenge common sense and prejudice—and features her public art beginnings, carved stone benches, and sarcophagi. Drawings and objects from the artist's archive complement these early works. Holzer's practice began in the 1970s with posters around New York and evolved into light projections on landscapes and architecture.
