Jenny Holzer's augmented reality works acquired by Guggenheim Bilbao
Jenny Holzer's augmented reality project "Like Beauty in Flames" has been acquired by the Museo Guggenheim Bilbao for its permanent collection. The work, created in collaboration with the museum, translates the artist's signature "truisms" into extended reality. Accessible via a dedicated mobile app, it offers three distinct AR experiences: two site-specific pieces that interact with the museum's architecture and a third activatable anywhere worldwide. An AR version of Holzer's LED signs appears in the Guggenheim's central atrium with truisms in English, Spanish, Basque, and French. Outside, virtual projections appear on the facade at five points, evoking her 2019 monumental work "Jenny Holzer For Bilbao" created for the retrospective "Thing Indescribable." The project was announced to the public in May 2021.
