Jenni Hiltunen's 'Add Red or Not' Challenges Perfection at Mimmo Scognamiglio
Finnish artist Jenni Hiltunen (b. 1981, Hollola) presents her third solo show with Mimmo Scognamiglio Artecontemporanea in Milan, titled 'Add Red or Not', continuing a decade-long collaboration. The exhibition critiques the 'posing culture' of fashion magazines and interior design, where perfect images dominate. Hiltunen's 'disheveled' women, with exaggerated eyes and visible paint drips, reclaim authenticity and imperfection. The title references Richard Shiff's essay on Joan Mitchell. A standout work, 'Black Door of Georgia' (2023), pays homage to Georgia O'Keeffe's iconic black door in New Mexico. The show runs at the Milan gallery in 2023.
