Jenna Sutela's Sonic Pond at Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation
At the Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation in London, Jenna Sutela presents her exhibition "With each cycle," showcasing a unique version of "Pond Brain," a sculptural sound installation that serves as both an instrument and a fountain. Drawing from "alt" cybernetic concepts, the bronze piece filled with water acts as a neuroplastic representation of the artist, resembling a bowl that produces feedback loops of sound and splashing droplets. A microphone captures its sounds, including random occurrences in the space and recordings of Sutela playing, creating a dynamic auditory experience from oceanic and interplanetary soundscapes, featuring star pulses and dolphin calls. Additionally, "Pond Ephemeris," a lunar chart-like score made of perforated paper, expands Sutela's exploration of sound, language, and non-human registers. Developed alongside "Pond Brain," this score visually represents celestial frequencies within the installation's sound design, referencing the moon's effects on tides, marine life, and humanity. Located in the Library, a new area for intermedia and experimental works, these installations turn the space into a resonance chamber and observatory. Curated by Vittoria de Franchis, the exhibition is open until May 23, 2026.
