Jenna McKnight's book highlights eight mid-century modern designs still in production

Dezeen contributor Jenna McKnight has released a new book titled "Design: Mid-Century Modern" via Hardie Grant Publishing, which tracks the development of the enduring design style. In an article on Dezeen, McKnight selects eight iconic mid-century modern pieces that have remained in continuous production since their debut in the 1950s and 1960s. The featured designs include Alvar Aalto's Stool 60 (1933), Arne Jacobsen's Ant Chair (1952) and Egg Chair (1960), Harry Bertoia's Diamond Chair (1952), Charles and Ray Eames's Eames Lounge Chair (1956), Poul Henningsen's PH 5 Pendant Lamp (1958), Eero Saarinen's Tulip Table and Chairs (1958), and Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's Arco Floor Lamp (1962). McKnight, who lives in California, notes that mid-century modern remains relevant due to its clean lines and versatility, blending well with other decor styles. Most original manufacturers—including Artek, Fritz Hansen, Knoll, Herman Miller, Vitra, Louis Poulsen, and Flos—still produce these designs today. The book and article underscore how mid-century modern design combined good design with mass production to achieve lasting popularity.
