Jeffrey Deitch and Uniqlo Launch Arts for All Fashion Line
Japanese clothing giant Uniqlo, known for its minimalist aesthetic, is partnering with renowned art dealer and former MOCA Los Angeles director Jeffrey Deitch to launch a low-budget artist-designed product line called Arts for All. The collection will debut on January 20 in two of Uniqlo's three New York flagship stores (Soho and 34th Street), with a "store within a store" concept. Beyond apparel, the project includes events at Deitch Projects gallery in Soho featuring street artists AIKO and Daze. The initiative pays homage to Gilbert & George, the British artist duo who adopted the "Art for All" motto in the late 1960s while at Central Saint Martins. On opening day, a historical display will showcase works from the 1980 Times Square Show, a seminal exhibition in New York's entertainment district that aimed to democratize art access.
