Jeffrey Bishop's Monoprints Reveal Cybernetic Organisms at SRO Gallery

Jeffrey Bishop's monoprints from 2014 to 2018 were exhibited at SRO Gallery in Brooklyn from September 6 to October 7, 2018. The show featured unique works created through collaboration with master printer Myrna Burks in Orient Point, NY, combining techniques like silkscreen, digital printing, watercolor, and chine collé. Bishop's prints evolved from aggressive, spiky forms to fluid, digitally-derived wave patterns, with motifs ranging from avian figures to reptilian cybernetic organisms. Works like Monoprint #42 (2016) and Monoprint 71 (2018) displayed psychological tension and surrealist influences, merging mechanistic and biological elements. SRO Gallery, run by artists Don Doe and Cecilia Whittaker-Doe in their Crown Heights brownstone, represents the generative, transient nature of artist-run spaces in New York, alongside venues like Centotto and ODETTA. The exhibition highlighted Bishop's technical ingenuity and the value of intimate exhibition spaces.
