Jeff Koons inaugurates Almine Rech's new London gallery with Gazing Ball exhibition

Jeff Koons opens a solo exhibition at Almine Rech's new London gallery, marking the French gallerist's second UK space. The 225-square-meter venue on Grosvenor Hill in Mayfair is located near her other London outpost and Larry Gagosian's gallery. The show features four sculptures and eight paintings from 2014–2016, including works from the Gazing Ball series first presented by Gagosian in 2014. The canvases meticulously reproduce masterpieces by Boucher, Goltzius, Poussin, Spranger, and others, complete with craquelure. Blue spheres on shelves project onto the paintings and onto two Duchamp-inspired objects: a bottle rack and a stool. Dominating the space are two monumental stainless steel sculptures, Ballerinas (2010–14) and Seated Ballerina (2010–15), reflecting distorted images of the reproduced Old Masters and the ultramarine spheres. The exhibition runs from October 6, 2016, to January 21, 2017.
