Jeanne Vicerial's Quarantine Vestimentaire: Daily Fashion Diary During Lockdown
During Italy's COVID-19 lockdown, French fashion designer Jeanne Vicerial, a PhD in Fashion Design and fellow at Villa Medici, launched the project Quarantine Vestimentaire on Instagram. The project began the day after the Italian decree announcing confinement, and she decided to continue her work within the walls of Villa Medici. Each morning, she shared a new creation—floral bustiers, covering hats, parabolic masks, and garments—using techniques developed during her doctoral thesis and ephemeral elements like flowers and leaves. The compositions were fixed with pins and photographed by Leslie Moquin. The project was born from a desire to offer a daily chronicle through free forms of interpretation, distinct from news reports. Vicerial had previously been invited by A.I. Artisan Intelligence, a fashion research platform founded by Clara Tosi Pamphili and Alessio de'Nevasques, to present her Clinique Vestimentaire project in a lecture as part of the Public program for Sublimi Anatomie at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in winter 2020.
