Jean-Yves Lanvin Opens Gallery in Pietrasanta, Versilia
Jean-Yves Lanvin, a French designer and great-grandson of couturière Jeanne-Marie Lanvin, is opening his first gallery-showroom in Pietrasanta, Versilia, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 7 PM. Located at via Barsanti 31, the space will showcase his limited-edition sculptural furniture—tables, chandeliers, table lamps, mirrors, and consoles—crafted from precious materials like bronze, marble, and onyx with high-jewelry finishes. Lanvin, born in 1965, previously worked in finance at Lazard Freres in New York and Salomon Brothers in London before turning to design. He was inspired by Paul Iribe, Armand-Albert Rateau, and Jean Dunand, who created for Lanvin Décoration. He collaborated with Maison Charles (lighting) and Maison Pouenat (metalwork) to master casting and metalworking techniques. His works have been exhibited mainly at Portuondo Gallery in London. The Pietrasanta gallery will also display his personal collections, including tapestries and paintings by Japanese artists Shitomi Murakami and Kyoto Sasai. Lanvin chose Pietrasanta for its high-craftsmanship workshops and marble quarries, which led him to replace rock crystal with marble in his first piece, the Gemini table.
