Jean-Pierre Léaud as Louis XIV and a Shaman in Louidgi Beltrame's El Brujo

publication · 2026-04-24

Louidgi Beltrame's "El Brujo," released by Fondation SAM, complements his spring exhibition at Palais de Tokyo following his victory in the SAM Art Projects award. The initiative showcases Jean-Pierre Léaud, recognized for portraying Louis XIV in Albert Serra's "La Mort de Louis XIV" (fall 2016). Although Beltrame intended for Léaud to reenact a scene from "Les Quatre cents coups" in Peru, travel restrictions prevented this. Consequently, shaman José Levis Picón depicted Léaud running towards the ocean. The video features Léaud strolling through Paris, revisiting key sites from his life, accompanied by Jacno's music. Additionally, a cane belonging to Léaud was sent to the shaman for re-magnetization, which inspired a Super 8 film.
