Jean Nouvel's Rosewood Tower Rises in São Paulo
French architect Jean Nouvel is building the Rosewood Tower in São Paulo, Brazil, with completion targeted for 2018. The 90-meter tower will contain 151 rooms, 122 suites, two restaurants, a bar, three pools, a wellness center, and a fitness area. It is part of the Cidade Matarazzo revitalization project, a 30,000-square-meter area featuring historic buildings that had been abandoned for years, including the F. Matarazzo gynecological hospital. Nouvel drew inspiration from Brazil's lush coastal vegetation, integrating plants, flowers, and trees—especially figs and magnolias—as well as wood into the design. The project is financed by Groupe Allard. The tower marks Nouvel's debut in South America and his first project in the region since winning the Pritzker Prize in 2008.
