Jean Michel Jarre Debuts as Visual Artist with AI Haiku Exhibition at MEET Milan

Electronic music pioneer Jean Michel Jarre (born 1948, Lyon) is presenting his first-ever visual art exhibition, 'Promptitude,' at the MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan. The show explores the synergy between human creativity and artificial intelligence, using haiku poetry as prompts for AI-generated images. Jarre writes haikus—traditional Japanese short poems—which are fed to an AI to produce visuals. The process is then reversed: the AI-generated image becomes a new prompt, outputting a description and title. The exhibition features four components for each work: the original haiku, the AI image, the AI-generated description, and the AI-generated title. A generative sound composition titled 'EŌN' evolves continuously throughout the space. The resulting imagery evokes references to Tim Burton's 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and Studio Ghibli films, though indirectly, as the algorithm remixes its training data. The exhibition underscores the collaborative potential of human-machine interaction, with Jarre viewing technology as a positive tool that amplifies human potential when used responsibly.
