Jean-Marc Superville Sovak Reexamines Hudson Valley Black Histories at The Dorsky Museum

At SUNY New Paltz, the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art is showcasing "Jean-Marc Superville Sovak: Open for Unfinished Business," an exhibition that delves into the often-ignored narratives of freedom, labor, and community-building within the early Black populations of the Hudson Valley. This exhibition will be open from September 9 to December 6, 2026, featuring new installations, site-specific pieces, and historical loans, many of which are being displayed publicly for the first time. Jean-Marc Superville Sovak, who serves as an artist, researcher, and curator, reimagines the museum as a space for reinterpreting local histories. Through extensive community engagement and archival work, the exhibition seeks to envision a diverse past and foster a more restorative connection to the present.
