Jean-Luc Moulène's Alchemical Art at Thomas Dane Naples
Thomas Dane Gallery in Naples presents 'Enlightenments', a solo exhibition of French artist Jean-Luc Moulène (b. 1955) featuring 35 works that transform everyday objects through material experimentation. The show includes recent pieces from his ongoing 'Opus' series (initiated in 1995) and highlights two key works: 'Vortex' (2024), a site-specific piece inspired by Mount Vesuvius, and 'Fixed Zinc, Hobart' (2021), a zinc alloy work first shown at MONA in Tasmania. Moulène's practice, described as an 'art of attention' by Martin Margiela, employs diverse materials from raw components and 3D-printed elements to industrial bronze, PVC pipes bound with beef tendons, and pantyhose stuffed into metal animal forms. The exhibition follows strict placement rules within an imaginary grid, creating a sacred atmosphere. This is Moulène's sixth collaboration with the gallery.
