Jean-Hubert Martin Curates 3rd Moscow Biennale 'Against Exclusion' at Garage Center

Jean-Hubert Martin, who previously directed the Centre Georges Pompidou and curated the 1989 exhibition Magiciens de la terre, is set to lead the 3rd Moscow Biennale, themed 'Against Exclusion'. This event will commence on September 24, 2009, at Dasha Zhukova's Garage Center for Contemporary Culture. The biennale showcases a mix of international talents, including Anish Kapoor and Spencer Tunick, as well as lesser-known Russian artists like Valery Koshlyakov and Alexandr Brodsky, along with contributions from Afghan carpet weavers and African village artists. With over thirty years of involvement in Russian art, Martin aims to confront issues of racism and xenophobia while positioning Moscow within the global art landscape. A parallel program featuring around fifty additional exhibitions will also take place.
