Jean-François Laguionie's animated feature 'Una barca in giardino' made its debut at the 77th Cannes Film Festival and was also showcased at the 43rd Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Scheduled for release in Italian cinemas on February 13, 2025, by Trent Film, the narrative centers on young François in the early 1950s, whose father, Pierre, constructs a replica of the Spray—the sailboat that enabled Joshua Slocum to achieve the first solo circumnavigation in 1895. At 11 years old, François becomes captivated by both the project and Slocum's remarkable legacy. Drawing from Slocum's actual experiences, the film delves into themes of childhood and the dynamics between parents and children. Slocum's voyage commenced on April 24, 1895, and concluded on June 27, 1898.
