Jean Fisher, influential British critic and Third Text editor, dies at 74

Jean Fisher, a critic and theorist originally from Britain, passed away at the age of 74. Her prolific writing explored the intersections of art with ethnicity, multiculturalism, globalization, and the ethical-political aspects of aesthetic experiences. From 1989 to 1999, she worked as assistant editor and later editor for the British journal Third Text. In the 1980s, she also contributed to Artforum. Fisher wrote extensively about various artists, including Jimmie Durham, James Coleman, Susan Hiller, and Rasheed Araeen. Over a span of thirty years, she taught at institutions such as Goldsmiths College, the Royal College of Art in London, and the School of Visual Art in New York. She became Professor Emeritus at Middlesex University in 2011. Her passing was announced on December 14, 2016.
