Jean Fautrier retrospective at Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris
After thirty years, Paris dedicates a major retrospective to Jean Fautrier (1898–1964), recognized as the father of Art Informel and pioneer of matter painting with his 'Otages' series. The exhibition 'Jean Fautrier – Matière et lumière' runs until May 20 at the Musée d'Art moderne de la Ville de Paris, which holds the world's largest collection of his works. Featuring 200 pieces—paintings, drawings, prints, and a substantial group of sculptures—it is the most comprehensive show ever organized on the artist. The display includes the entire collection donated by Fautrier to the museum, supplemented by works from public and private collections in France and abroad. This is the third exhibition the museum has dedicated to the Parisian artist: the first retrospective in 1964 was organized in collaboration with Fautrier himself following a generous donation; a second show in 1989 aimed to highlight connections across his career phases.
