Jean Clair: artpress Interviews Collection Published
artpress has published 'Les grands entretiens d’artpress. Jean Clair', a collection of interviews with the art historian and Académie française member. Clair, a Marcel Duchamp specialist, curated notable thematic exhibitions including 'L’Âme au corps' (1993) and 'Identité et Altérité' (1995) as director of the Venice Biennale. Despite his controversial political stances against certain contemporary art forms championed by artpress, the magazine maintained dialogue with him, first interviewing him in 1977 on 'disenchantment' and again in 2005 for his exhibition 'Mélancolie'. The volume includes interviews by Richard Leydier and Catherine Millet, with a preface by Leydier. Clair is quoted saying, 'Large exhibitions denoting a certain intellectual ambition are today disappearing.'
