JDL to paint Rome's largest mural on Corviale 'Serpentone'

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Dutch street artist JDL (Judith de Leeuw) will create the largest mural in Rome on the Corviale 'Serpentone' building, covering the entire northeast facade. The work depicts a woman covered in oil, inspired by the Icarus myth as a metaphor for environmental self-destruction. The mural is part of the Street Art for Rights Forum Festival, founded by Giuseppe Casa and curated by Oriana Rizzuto for MArtGallery, produced by ARTmosfera. The festival began as a special project of the Biennale MArteLive in 2014 and has created over 30 murals in Corviale and Settecamini, plus two open-air museums in Cassino, Fiumicino, and Latina. The project received EU recognition under the Creative Europe program, launching a new three-year cycle involving France and Greece. The mural will be inaugurated on December 22, 2022. Due to planned renovation under Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan, the mural will be destroyed in about two years. To preserve it, the work will be transformed into an NFT on the blockchain, with proceeds donated to the Corviale neighborhood.
