JDD uses Autodesk Fusion to expand customisable British office furniture line

British furniture maker Joint Design Direction (JDD) has adopted Autodesk Fusion software to streamline design and manufacturing of its workplace furniture, now offering over 30 customisable products. The cloud-based platform combines 3D modelling, simulation, and CAM tools, enabling parametric adjustments without redrawing. JDD's Yume Rest Pod, featuring a full-size single bed, built-in table, power outlets, and adjustable lighting, benefited from Fusion's parametric modelling during prototyping. Production designer George Hopkins noted tasks that took three hours in AutoCAD now take three minutes. The company, founded in 2010 by James Mercy and Joe Duffell after a chance meeting at London's 100% Design trade show, has grown to nearly 100 employees with showrooms in Birmingham, London, Glasgow, and Dubai. JDD switched to Fusion about a year ago to improve collaboration across product design, manufacturing, and production teams, replacing a workflow that used 3ds Max and OnShape with STEP file exchanges. Now teams share live Fusion models, eliminating back-and-forth communication. The software's user-friendly interface was praised by designer Charlie Adlem compared to SolidWorks and Rhino. JDD's headquarters and manufacturing remain in Dudley, UK.
