Jasper Knight's Two-Decade Survey at Mosman Art Gallery

Sydney-based artist Jasper Knight, known for his vibrant primary colors and exuberant brushwork, is the subject of a new survey exhibition at Mosman Art Gallery. The show, running from 15 May to 9 August 2026, spans over twenty years of Knight's practice, featuring early sketches and recent painted works, many exhibited for the first time. Knight often worked with materials at hand, including corflute and cardboard boxes, as seen in his paintings of chairs from one of his first exhibitions. The exhibition includes a notable work, 'Chair Overlooking Street' (2003), a synthetic polymer paint on cardboard piece measuring 120 × 90cm, photographed by Michael Bradfield and courtesy of the artist and Chalk Horse Gallery, Sydney. Knight's formative years near the harbor have influenced his practice, which is primarily as a painter and printmaker. The survey highlights his evolution from sketches to large-scale paintings, showcasing his unique approach to materials and subject matter.
