Jason Martin's 'Vertex' at Christian Stein, Milan: Color as Mystical Experience

British artist Jason Martin (born 1970, Jersey) presents 'Vertex', his second solo show at Christian Stein in Milan, following a 2023 project. Curated by Sergio Risaliti, the exhibition features eight new large-scale works at Palazzo Cicogna. Martin's thick impasto on aluminum, created through performative brushstrokes, produces shifting colors and textures reminiscent of a wheat field changing with the wind. The paintings, far from monochrome, possess a richness of hues compared to Johann Sebastian Bach's musical variations. Titles like 'Vertex', 'Virgo', 'Centauri', and 'Aletheia' reference ancient Greek mythology and classical culture, infusing the works with spiritual and emotional depth. The gallery becomes a multisensory environment, with the pungent smell of fresh oil paint adding to the experience. The exhibition runs until May 23, 2025.
