Jason Martin's 'New Oils' at Galleria Mimmo Scognamiglio, Milan

Jason Martin, born in Jersey in 1970 and currently living between London and Portugal, presents his solo exhibition 'New Oils' at Galleria Mimmo Scognamiglio in Milan. Since the early 1990s, Martin has explored the sculptural potential of oil paint, manipulating its material properties through gravity, drying, and physical intervention. The works in 'New Oils' feature dense, saturated colors and viscous impasto, with paint agglomerations breaking the flat surface to create protuberances that result from both the artist's intent and the randomness of paint drips. Despite their sculptural monumentality, the pieces retain a rapid painterly gesture, with pigment violently scratched onto aluminum supports or shaped into baroque-echoing forms. The exhibition continues Martin's long-standing investigation into the physicality of painting.
