Jason Dodge's Poetics of Displacement at La Galerie, Noisy le Sec

Jason Dodge's exhibition at La Galerie in Noisy le Sec, running from May 29 to July 24, 2010, explores the concept of flux through works that materialize intangible distances and domestic banalities. The show's title, evoking an incipit, invites a retrospective journey. Works include folded blankets on the floor and monosyllabic labels partially recomposing a proper name, resulting from spatiotemporal displacement—such as the distance between Earth and the troposphere or a flock of carrier pigeons between two cities. The series "Above the Weather" materializes intangible distances, suggesting a free interpretation of "the color of the night." In the bare gallery space, Dodge renders visible mundane domestic utilities: a copper pipe connected to a water supply, externalized electrical wires, and a bulb where current flows via a detour. These visible channels and invisible fluxes create a sense of danger. A small note attached to the copper pipe childishly invites visitors to open the valves, leading to flooding and electrocution—a tragicomic tension between perceptible austerity and improbable action.
