Japanese Designers Takahashi, Ninomiya, Miyake, and Yamamoto at Paris Fashion Week

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

During Paris Fashion Week in February 2019, four innovative Japanese designers displayed their distinctive aesthetics. Jun Takahashi's Undercover women's collection incorporated visuals from Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria, prominently featuring Tilda Swinton on a blouse. Kei Ninomiya unveiled 32 ensembles in shades of black, white, purple, and flesh pink, adorned with floral motifs and red roses intricately woven into wigs crafted by Azuma Makoto. Issey Miyake, a Hiroshima survivor, emphasized material experimentation using 'Dough Dough' fabric and 'Bao Bao' modular components. Yohji Yamamoto wrapped up the show with cloaked figures inspired by 17th-century Peruvian women, demonstrating haute couture techniques. Takahashi and Ninomiya are associated with Rei Kawakubo, while Yamamoto partners with Adidas, and Naoki Takizawa leads Miyake's brand.
