Janine Antoni's Installation at Luhring Augustine, Danica Phelps' Stats at LFL, Dara Birnbaum's Video at Jewish Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-22

At Luhring Augustine's location on 531 W 24th Street, Janine Antoni's installation 'To Draw a Line' confronts viewers with raw hemp fiber and dust situated between two nine-foot steel reels, on display until October 25, 2003. This piece alludes to her earlier performances 'Gnaw' from 1992 and 'Slumber' from 1994, linking her to conceptual artists such as Chris Burden, Marina Abramovic, and Vito Acconci through themes of endurance. Meanwhile, at LFL Gallery, Danica Phelps showcases 'Integrating Sex Into Everyday Life,' which chronicles her new lesbian relationship with Debi through drawings and bar codes, with no specified end date. Additionally, Dara Birnbaum's video installation 'Erwartung/Expectancy' at The Jewish Museum, running until January 4, 2004, features images projected onto Arnold Schönberg's watercolor, accompanied by a digitally modified soundtrack. The Jewish Museum will also host Schönberg's work in its 'Schoenberg, Kandinsky, and the Blue Rider' exhibition starting October 24, 2003.
