Jang Min-Seung Wins 2014 Hermès Foundation Missulsang Prize for Works Addressing Sewol Ferry Tragedy
Jang Min-Seung received the 2014 Hermès Foundation Missulsang, an annual award recognizing emerging Korean contemporary artists. The prize includes an exhibition at Atelier Hermès in Maison Hermès Dosan Park featuring all finalists. Jang's winning submission consisted of two video works: Snow We Saw (2014) and Pitch-dark (2014), which directly respond to the April 16 Sewol ferry disaster that claimed 300 lives. The artist's practice explores themes of shock and grief through these pieces. Other finalists included the graphic design duo Sulki & MinJang and artist Yeo Daham. Established in 2008 by the Hermès Foundation, the award supports rising talents in Korea's art scene. Jang Min-Seung, 35, studied at Chungang University in Seoul and has exhibited at venues including Space Willing N Dealing, ONE AND J. GALLERY, Gilman Barracks in Singapore, and Seoul Museum of Art.
