Janaina Mello Landini's Ciclotrama at Galleria Macca in Cagliari

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Brazilian artist Janaina Mello Landini (born 1974 in São Gotardo) presents her solo exhibition at Galleria Macca in Cagliari, featuring her signature series Ciclotrama—a term she coined over six years ago. The works consist of ropes in constant tension that unravel and spread across large surfaces, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's studies of dynamics. The structures mimic organic forms such as branches, roots, spiderwebs, and labyrinths, serving as metaphors for human interconnection with society and nature. For this exhibition, Landini created a monumental site-specific piece alongside smaller framed works where ropes are meticulously deconstructed. Curator Efisio Carbone describes the work as "Ariadne's thread that unravels into a thousand paths, declaring, in a Nietzschean sense, the absence and impossibility of words reaching truth." The exhibition marks Landini's first in Cagliari.
