Jana Müller's Italian Debut Reconstructs a Noir Crime Scene in Trento

exhibition · 2026-05-05

German artist Jana Müller (born 1977 in Halle/Saale) presents her first solo exhibition in Italy at Paolo Maria Deanesi Gallery in Trento. Titled "On rough diamonds," the show is conceived as a single installation, though the works span different years. It features lived-in objects displayed under vitrines, photographic works that serve as two-dimensional doubles of the exhibited objects, and glass prints of defendants awaiting trial who cover their faces with whatever means available. Each presented "clue" appears formally impeccable but, layered under glass, invites multiple interpretations, undermining the concept of "objective" truth. Notably, some objects genuinely come from judicial archives, and Müller, deeply interested in forensic themes, is the daughter of a former East German police investigator.
