Jana Glaese's Book on Living with AfD Neighbors: Strategies for Everyday Resistance

Sociologist Jana Glaese has published a book titled "Mit Rechten leben: Widerstand und Nähe im Alltag" (Living with Right-wingers: Resistance and Proximity in Everyday Life), which explores how individuals navigate relationships with people who vote for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The book draws on real-life examples, such as Sven, who plays football in a club in his Saxon village where he estimates 80% of the team votes AfD, and Anja, who identifies with the Greens and has deliberately vacationed with her brother for six years despite his position on an AfD district board in southern Germany. Glaese's work examines the complexities of maintaining social ties with AfD voters in everyday settings, contrasting this with more confrontational forms of protest like anti-AfD demonstrations. The book's narrative style has been compared to a novel by Juli Zeh. The publication is featured in the current issue of the German newspaper der Freitag, with an article by Sebastian Puschner.
